My First Roll
Blog Post 1
Whoaaaaa first blog post incoming…
I’ve always had an affinity for photography. My first ever experience using a camera goes back to being in my middle school’s newspaper club for a small article. The person who was the designated photographer of the group wasn’t in attendance for a club meeting and I was able to somehow convince the teacher to let me take on their assignment for that day. I remember feeling the exhilaration of the first time holding an actual camera with buttons. It’s such a peculiar experience being able to finally do something you’ve seen so many others do- that camera both held nostalgia for all of the time I’ve ever been photographed by a family member, but also remained a foreign object that was ridiculously heavier than I thought would be. Needless to say, I took to the school halls and the article was published in the school newspaper. The one singular photo I took that wasn’t either shaky, out of focus, or over-exposed was found neatly tucked away a few pages inside the paper. I was proud of that one photo.
Fast forward to now, I think I have taken some pretty sweet photos… on my phone. I always wanted to get my own camera, but I also felt like it was such an expensive hobby just to only “try out.” Regardless, that one middle school memory remained turning in my head whenever I would get ready for headshots or meet with the photographer taking production photos for a show I was in. It had been something I’ve had in the back of my head as something to get into, truly. I had bought disposable cameras and even the Instax Mini. Sadly both of these didn’t produce that one specific quality I wanted in my photos- thus I ended up with my phone becoming the much more preferred method of capturing memories. This option allowed me to find creativity while remaining ever-so-perfectly comfortable within such a limited knowledge of the art form.
I still wanted to explore this other option.
So I went out on a whim and bought my first-ever film camera! My brand-new baby- my Minolta 400si- has already become so near and dear to my heart, as I’m already on my third roll of film as I type this out. I only had this roll in my camera for about 3 days since the purchase before I could see all 36 photos had been taken. So, without further ado, please enjoy my first roll of film! :)
